What’s New on the Square in Glasgow

Image
Main Street Bed & Breakfast is just a short walk from the downtown square in Glasgow. On the square you’ll find local businesses, unique shops and great eats. We’ve been fortunate to have some new arrivals on the square, so we want to highlight these new places you will want to check out when you visit Glasgow! The Hive Coffee & Bakehouse The Hive is a collaboration between Honey's Coffee Co and Wild Flours Bake Shop. Focused on sustainability, local ingredients and recipes passed down from generations, the Hive offers a selection of craft coffee, teas and other specialty drinks along with artisan baked goods.  Whether you need a caffeine pick-me-up, a sweet treat or a hearty lunch, you are sure to find it here! You can go upstairs to sip your coffee while looking over the square or settle in a quiet corner. The Hive is a wonderful addition to our neighborhood offering a truly unique space to embrace the history of the town. Nadine West Book Company Another great addition...

Upcoming Spring & Summer Events

Image
With spring bringing longer days and warmer weather, I am excited to spend more time outdoors! The seasons of spring and summer also bring many events to downtown Glasgow and surrounding areas. I want to highlight some of these activities so you can plan your trip accordingly! Vietnam Veteran Ceremony The South Central Kentucky Cultural Center will honor local veterans from the Vietnam era on Saturday, April 26. This includes veterans who served between 1955-1975 from the following counties: Allen, Barren, Hart, Metcalfe and Monroe. The event is from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be an opening ceremony, stories from veterans, patriotic music and a special Vietnam exhibit on the 2nd floor gallery of the cultural center. If you or a loved one served during this time or you simply want to honor those who did, this is an event you won’t want to miss! Cave City Cars and Coffee On the first Saturday of the month beginning in April and continuing through October, you can enjoy cars and co...

New Animals to Greet You at Main Street Bed & Breakfast

Image
Guests will be enthusiastically greeted by our new Bed & Breakfast mascot - Kodiak! Kodiak is a rescue dog I adopted from a local shelter last summer. They told me he was 4 years old, but I'm sure he's much younger. He still has a lot of puppy energy! Kodiak is super friendly and playful. He enjoys playing keep away with his ball. Don't be surprised if he brings a ball or other toy to you, inviting you to participate. He loves being petted as well. If you are not a fan of dogs - don't worry! I can keep Kodiak penned up out of the way, so he's not a bother. I understand not everyone loves dogs. If you are allergic to dogs, that may be an issue depending on how severe your allergy. If you have any concerns, don't hesitate to talk to me before booking your stay. I want everyone to feel comfortable during their visit to Glasgow. Besides Kodiak, I also have three chickens. Snowy, Checkers and Jenga live in a chicken coop I added last fall. They provide fresh eggs...

Relax! Enjoy the Patio and Fire Pit

Image
Relax!   Enjoy the Patio and Fire Pit I have now owned the Main Street Bed and Breakfast for four years.   For those of you that don’t know me, I enjoy gardening as much as time allows.   So, over the years I have made some minor improvements to the outside landscape.   But, this year I really wanted to create a pleasant space for my guests to relax and enjoy the backyard.   I started by planting another ten Arborvitaes along the south border to block the funeral home parking lot and give more privacy.   I just have to watch that trucks don’t back into them!   In May I hired Pablo Ginez of Orbis Terrarum to build a brick and stone patio around the existing cistern.   The cistern has been capped by the city but we were curious to see if it could be filled in so we took the cap off to look inside.   We found it’s a brick well that probably goes down about 20 to 30 feet!   Needless to say, we will not be filling it in.   I j...
